In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.” —Mark Twain

For those (like me) who have never served our country, it’s too easy to minimize the courage of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, as I enjoy the freedoms given to me by those who came before me, I can only express my gratitude. Thank you for serving our cause, and for being people of “scarce” character.
